Taxes and fees in California

California applies use tax when you register a vehicle purchased out of state — the statewide base rate is 7.25%, and district add-ons in cities like Los Angeles bring the effective rate higher. You pay California, not Florida: as an out-of-state buyer you are exempt from Florida sales tax when the car is shipped to you by carrier.

Registration and inspections

The critical California rule: a car with fewer than 7,500 miles on the odometer must be California-certified (CARB-compliant) to be registered as new. Most late-model exotics sold nationwide carry 50-state emissions certification, but we verify the underhood emissions label on every candidate car before you commit — not after.

Used vehicles over 7,500 miles register normally: smog check (most gasoline cars), VIN verification, then title and plates through the DMV.
